After several failed attempts at getting Airtel (no ports), Sify (no connectivity in my area), Hathway (no response), I finally settled on Tata Wi-Max (VSNL) who got back to me very promptly saying they could give me a connection. Surprisingly, the folks at TI were super efficient. Not only was my connection okayed in a couple of days, they were ready to install it a day after I had signed the dotted line. I wasn’t in town and had to wait for a while to do it.
They came over, installed an antenna on my roof and in about 15 minutes I was connected and ready to go.
After several months tearing my hair out with a super slow Reliance Data card connection – I get about 2 bars as signal (out of 6) anywhere in my house - this new connection seems like a life changing experience. Really.
Not only that, the Indicom folks called a few times checking on my connection, gave me tips on how to check the speed and making sure I wasn’t facing any problems. I am rather surprised since my earlier experience with Indicom wasn’t altogether pleasant. They seem to have pulled up their socks lately and I’m hoping they’re as cooperative and quick to solve my problems when things don’t work.
As of now, I’m enjoying my super fast connection (okay it isn’t super fast, but believe me when you go through the data card – anything else is like a dream) and hoping that this lasts for a while!

Hmm.. just wait darling,
Ever since i got this thing, i have been having lots of connectivity issues. Their response was prompt initially, then things started to get worse.. Anyway things have begun to stabilize off late.. Hope they get better.. fingers crossed :)

thats cool! Its good to see a change in the way people do things. I had a similar experience when we got BSNL Broadband installed at my place. We got it up and running in a day and that friendly guy calls us every 3-months or so even now to check our connection and other issues! Now, of course, I believe it is way too tuff to get it. More often than not, you are waitlisted. I’m glad I had that experience. My bias about these guys wouldnt have ever changed otherwise :)

it’s really dificult to work with any of data card or modem. i’ve reliance modem and it download data @1.3 to max 10kb/s. and in the case of tata’s service think it’s only a matter of time because now they have very limited customer.

@ pamela - santanu: thanks!
@ Narayan: don’t burst my bubble just yet!
@ Mridula: wow, such good service from BSNL?! they’re definitely cheaper too! i heard about the wait list and decided to go for vsnl instead.
@ Shriram: well, i don’t know about going ahead but i am hoping they’re just as prompt when i have problems!
@ bijoy: really? i’m rather pissed off with them with the way they handled my connection. they didn’t even bother to inform me that a port might get free sometime, or that i could try again in a few months. they simply said they can’t give me a connection and that was that!
@ Prashanth: in 3 weeks? wow. that’s not bad at all!
@ Sathish: hehe :) i don’t know about that!
हर्षवर्धन: true. the data card is really basic though i managed with it for more than 10 months!
@ sandeep: yeah, it is! maybe, they’re pulling up their socks. i hope so!
सुजाता: yeah, i had no problems with my earlier airtel connection until they ran out of ports!
@ Manasa: thanks!
