On the Spice Country trail

August 14th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, Cycling, DesiPundit, India, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography

On July 24/25th, we headed out to Coorg and Wayanad with MuddyBoots (a new adventure company) for a spice country cycling trail. Here is an account of the trip.

Treesforfree needs your help to continue planting trees

July 27th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Personal, Projects

The problem: Over the last 4 years, Janet and her volunteers at treesforfree have planted 12,896 trees across Bangalore City to restore the vanishing tree cover. All in an old Maruti car. Now the car has broken down. And the planting has stopped. But the tree felling continues… and with it, the global warming, failed […]

Watch your balcony blossom!

July 20th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Projects

A few adventurous and creative friends have gotten together to bring some sunshine into your otherwise ignored or empty balcony or terrace!

The folks at My Sunny Balcony (MSB) can suggest how to transform an empty forlorn space into a veritable green heaven…

Scenes by the sea

November 3rd, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Travel

I spent 3 days in Fort Cochin during the month of October. It was a most relaxed trip where I walked by the sea, observed the fishermen, had some gorgeous food and discovered that even on a small little island you can keep yourself busy…
For me, it is probably one of the best times of the […]

Forever Jung!

September 3rd, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Travel

We had passed this little town called Jung (also written as Jang) on the way to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh and all of us were quite taken in by this quaint and charming little place. We made a decision to revisit it on our return journey.

Auroville Encore!

August 23rd, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Nature & Wildlife, Travel

My 3rd visit this year. And now I present, based on my multiple trips, things to do in Auroville.
- Cycle: Yes, I did it again. And I even managed not to fall off one!
- Ride: Lunas are really cool and they’re easy to maneuver too. I even progressed to a Kinetic and took pillion and here’s a […]

More tales from the North East

August 8th, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Projects, Travel

While travelling in Kalimpong last year, sitting in a local café having an evening snack I came across a rather nice looking glossy travel magazine. I was rather surprised when I saw that it was published out of Sikkim. Both the content and the photographs were of better quality than a lot of other travel […]

In the shade of the silver oak

July 14th, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Travel

If you want a short break, but don’t want to venture out too far from the city, Nandi Hills is a good option. The only problem though is that all sorts of crowds land up there by mid-morning and it seems more like a mela out there during the weekends.
