The Yahoo! Big Thinkers India series 2009

September 2nd, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Internet, Projects, Technology, Work

Started in 2007, this is a series of quarterly lectures this year on science, technology and the internet in India. The lectures, under the banner of the Yahoo! Big Thinkers India series, bring together academia, scientists, the corporate world and the media.
The speakers are acclaimed experts from the Yahoo! International team. They bring with them the […]

Treesforfree needs your help to continue planting trees

July 27th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Personal, Projects

The problem: Over the last 4 years, Janet and her volunteers at treesforfree have planted 12,896 trees across Bangalore City to restore the vanishing tree cover. All in an old Maruti car. Now the car has broken down. And the planting has stopped. But the tree felling continues… and with it, the global warming, failed […]

Watch your balcony blossom!

July 20th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Projects

A few adventurous and creative friends have gotten together to bring some sunshine into your otherwise ignored or empty balcony or terrace!

The folks at My Sunny Balcony (MSB) can suggest how to transform an empty forlorn space into a veritable green heaven…

More tales from the North East

August 8th, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Projects, Travel

While travelling in Kalimpong last year, sitting in a local café having an evening snack I came across a rather nice looking glossy travel magazine. I was rather surprised when I saw that it was published out of Sikkim. Both the content and the photographs were of better quality than a lot of other travel […]

BRC!">Never a dull moment at the BRC!

June 23rd, 2008  |  by Anita  |  published in India, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Personal, Photography, Projects

When Shankar called saying he was going to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WRRC) and would I like to go along, I jumped at the opportunity. The last time I went was with Usha and it’s been a while.

Run, baby, run!

November 26th, 2007  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Personal, Projects

The Bangalore Ultra is on December 16 for those of you who want to register for it. It will be held at Hesaraghatta and the distances are 26, 52, 78 and 104 kms. It is apparently the first time the ultra is being held in Bangalore (India?) and there are a few very brave souls […]

Connecting with rural India

November 5th, 2007  |  by Anita  |  published in Adventure, India, Projects

This is an effort to increase and encourage rural tourism and sounds like a pretty good idea by Rural Zing.
According to the tag line, it’s “an Initiative to connect urban and rural economy”.
They have day long trip starting from Bangalore on Saturdays and Sundays.

Fix it!

September 17th, 2007  |  by Anita  |  published in India, Living, Projects

This is quite amazing! Instead of sitting around and complaining, this group is going around Chennai fixing potholes.
We definitely need a few Bangaloreans to get onto this. God knows, that after the recent rains, there will be many potholes that need fixing. Interestingly, anyone can take the lead and start it off.
