It was a different experience in Mumbai this time around – we played tourists to the hilt. When you live in a city, I think you tend to miss a lot of things – fine details you don’t really notice as you rush about your daily work. Like that lovely Church behind Fort where I worked for a year or so – why had I never seen it? The beautiful old heritage buildings in Kalaghoda and Fort – never looked at them closely before. I had little time to stand and stare back then.

On Day 1, we made it from Bangalore to Mysore via the National Highway. It wasn't the most pleasant stretch in terms of traffic, but I was just glad that I could get this part over with. With trucks and other high speed vehicles all moving at break neck speeds and honking continuously, it's not really conducive to cyclists. But after lunch on the road, we reached our destination - the comfortable Hotel Regaalis and even got some time to take in some sightseeing in the evening.

The weather was hot and balmy. It was our last day in Kerala and we were looking forward to spending the night on a houseboat.

On my previous trips to Kerala, I've only gotten within drooling distance of a houseboat. It's a rather expensive proposition. There was one time when Steph was down from Switzerland and we did some sightseeing on a small boat, and then went around in a little canoe (that was fun!).
