On the Spice Country trail

August 14th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Cycling, DesiPundit, India & Around, Living, Nature & Wildlife, Photography, Sports & Adventure

On July 24/25th, we headed out to Coorg and Wayanad with MuddyBoots (a new adventure company) for a spice country cycling trail. Here is an account of the trip.

Treesforfree needs your help to continue planting trees

July 27th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Personal, Projects

The problem: Over the last 4 years, Janet and her volunteers at treesforfree have planted 12,896 trees across Bangalore City to restore the vanishing tree cover. All in an old Maruti car. Now the car has broken down. And the planting has stopped. But the tree felling continues… and with it, the global warming, failed […]

Watch your balcony blossom!

July 20th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Living, Nature & Wildlife, Projects

A few adventurous and creative friends have gotten together to bring some sunshine into your otherwise ignored or empty balcony or terrace! The folks at My Sunny Balcony (MSB) can suggest how to transform an empty forlorn space into a veritable green heaven…

The night I got rained out!

June 14th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Humour, India & Around, Living, Personal, Sports & Adventure

Of course we all know what happens on Bangalore roads when it rains. But I was the least prepared for the events to unfold that night. After dinner with friends at Indiranagar I set off towards Koramangala. It had been raining for around an hour but I didn’t really realize how bad things were outside. […]

A day (and night) on a houseboat

May 5th, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in DesiPundit, India & Around, Sports & Adventure, Travel

The weather was hot and balmy. It was our last day in Kerala and we were looking forward to spending the night on a houseboat.

On my previous trips to Kerala, I’ve only gotten within drooling distance of a houseboat. It’s a rather expensive proposition. There was one time when Steph was down from Switzerland and we did some sightseeing on a small boat, and then went around in a little canoe (that was fun!).

And… another one bites the dust!

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.” ~~ Kahlil Gibran

A little corner of serenity(ea)!

March 2nd, 2009  |  by Anita  |  published in Eating Out, India & Around, Photography, Sports & Adventure, Travel, Wining & Dining

In my perfect world, I will be surrounded by a lot of teapots of varying shapes and sizes. There will be cups of tea in different flavours waiting to be tasted, tea strainers, tea pots, kettles and the intoxicating smell of the dark brew everywhere.
