Fishy Tales

I started off disliking fish. I hated picking bones. I still remember taking a trip to Goa with my office colleagues in 1998, when I avoided the delicious fish preparations and ate chicken instead. They all thought I was crazy. I probably was! I am not sure at what point it changed, but I am glad it did. I love fish now. And I try and experiment with recipes whenever I get a chance. And eat out at fish places whenever I can find willing company (this is where I miss little sis!). Thankfully, Mumbai has a lot to offer to the fish lover. Here are a few of my favourite places. 1. Unnamed place next to Highway Gomantak (I think it was called Hotel Sheetal) This is a really no-frills place next to the more illustrious Highway Gomantak in Bandra (if you are going from Andheri, it’s on the service road to the left). It’s smaller than Highway Gomantak, but I found the food more delicious here. I am not sure if it still …

Wanted: Cultural experiences

If you are an Indian studying abroad, I’d love to hear from you regarding any strange, heart-warming, funny or interesting cultural experience that you had when you first landed in the country you are now living in. Something that you didn’t expect, or took you some time to get used to. A humorous story worth sharing. Or anything that you found new or memorable. If you know any bloggers/ students abroad (preferably those who have gone in the last year), please send me their URLs or mail IDs so I can contact them. This is for an education magazine that I had to submit yesterday! If you have anything to share, write to me at anitabora at vsnl dot net. And fast!

Meeting Mr Nandi

Between running errands on Monday, I finally caught up with the talented Mr Nandi in the afternoon. He wanted to know whether that salutation was meant as a compliment or an insult. Apparently, Mr Ripley was a murderer and imposter in the movie (I haven’t watched it)! Ah, well. You never know, Arnab; I see a lot of potential in you and it’s good to keep more options open just in case engineering doesn’t work out! I had met Arnab at the rediff.com office over a year ago and that was for exactly 5 seconds. He seemed really shy and literally ran away after saying hello. This time I made sure he got beyond 5 seconds! Thankfully, he liked Just Around the Corner, where we went for a bite. But I think it was the pretty *sights* (more than the decor) that warmed him to the place! Like my earlier meetings with young bloggers like Anand, Ari, Vipul, Lazy (do you see a trend here?!) what I enjoy most interacting with these ‘bachas’ (okay, okay, …

In blogdom

The Lazy Geek tied the knot yesterday. All the very best to Guru and Binu as they embark on their new life together. This is really a cracker. Via OJ. Kingsley is going in for another redesign. God save us! Maybe, he should switch to another colour from the pale blue he’s got right now, but I’m not going to bear the brunt of his ire by telling him 🙂 And while on design, found this link to Well Designed Weblogs via Chetan Kunte. One young man I’ve been trying to meet for a while is the talented Mr Nandi who is in Mumbai for a bit. Hopefully, all our stars will align and we can catch up for a cup of coffee and conversation next week! But not at Barista’s, of course… And another young woman I am supposed to be meeting is Tan. When she can make some time between her new husband and travelling! Anand’s put some great pictures (taken by his friend) of Nagercoil. Have a dekko, if you have the …

It’s that time of the year!

Ah, well. It’s that time of the year again. I remember being younger and so excited everytime my ‘special day’ would come around. It was a time when all my friends came over, mom made yummy khana, boyfriend gave me ‘cho-shweet’ gifts, sister was extra nice that day, dad would smile a little more. And being a sucker for gifts, I would get excited over every little thing I got as a present. Now, I think, ‘Oh, my God. Is it that time of the year already?’ I mean, didn’t I just turn a year older a few days ago? Oh noooo! Ah, well. There it is. Do leave yours in the comments box. At my age, they’re the only kind that I’ll be getting 🙂
