Finding a place

April 19th, 2004  |  Published in Living  |  21 Comments

Blogging from a Sify iway, somewhere near the new flat I moved into yesterday.

Being eaten alive by BIG mosquitoes.

Bangalore, I have realised is a haven for these pests. They’re everywhere!

So though I was very tempted to sleep with all the windows and doors open yesterday since the flat is quite well-grilled, I decided that I didn’t want this method of blood donation.

Jil and Rocky made sure I settled into the place. After enjoying a really satisfying lunch (Jil being a really awesome cook :) they took me shopping for essentials like buckets, mops, cleaning detergent and stuff that life in India is incomplete without!

By the end of the day, I was loading with all forms of cleaning agents. But thankfully, the flat is in quite a good condition. I decided to leave the few spider webs in the verandah till the next weekend and take it easy instead.

As I had mentioned in my last post, I was rather apprehensive about the move. But finding a place to stay has lifted a great burden off my shoulders. At least I have a place to park myself somewhere (until I buy that three bedroom apartment in a posh Bangalore suburb. Well, a girl can dream!).

I guess the loss of familiar faces and sights is the most difficult part of moving to a new place. It’s like being thrown in the middle of a desert with no navigation system! Well. I’m exaggerating. But for me, it’s important to have a few good friends around wherever I am. It helps me feel more centred. The fact that both Jil and Rocky are just a phone call away has helped. Friends have been pretty helpful with contacts. A school friend put me in touch with her college friend settled in Bangalore. And I’m hoping to meet up with a few Bangalore bloggers to get more acquainted with the ways of the city! Aqua, hope to catch up with you this time!

Last April, when I visited Bangalore with my sister, Madhu cooked us a delicious Thai meal. Now, he’s opened his restaurant in Indiranagar, so a visit to taste far Eastern cuisine is on the cards :)

Thankfully, the move been relatively painless. Of course, I miss Kit Kit a lot. I realise how attached I am to her when I don’t see her for a long period of time (about 18 days now). But she joins me in Bangalore next weekend! So there’s something to cheer about. Meanwhile, I’m trying to make the flat cat friendly in preparation :)

Okay, now these mosquitoes have literally parked themselves on me. And my new abode beckons.

    Hi Anita,

My self if Vaibhav 23 year old, living in Sydney since last 4 years. I have looked at your work and all your blogs (Not all, i think as you have many)

I have recently started writing as a part of my life. I think there has been no one from Australia so far in the INDIAN BLOG world. Now I have started writing and learning from you all gr8 bloggers.

I wanted you to add me in your lil directory of Indi bloggers. I would really appreciate you if you can do so :)

I am not sure how soon you are gonna read this but I am really waiting to have more hits on my bloggers.

Besides, by profession I am a communication graduate from Australia. Works for a biggest network company in Australia. I have hold of big servers and bandwidth. So am able to host some sites for free of cost. But the problem is that we use Windows 2000. I am trying to work out Moveable, if it works soon I will be launching a Blog Site for all of us to use. Your suggestions are most welcome. Please reply!

    Kind Regards,

    Vaibhav Pandey.

Once a Mumbaikar, always a Mumbaikar. That’s what me, a Mumbaikar trapped in Delhi feels.

You sure are gonna miss a lot of things, but most of all, you are gonna miss that chaos.

So best of luck on your move to Bangalore, and hope you adjust to that relatively non-chaotic life soon enough.

Viggy: I think I shall be here for a while. So I hope to see you sometime when you are back :)

Thanks Mehak, they have actually become a little less pestering lately. Must be used to my blood now!

Anand: Me and Zouth Eendian. Oh my gawd :) I can’t quite imagine that!

    Thanks Shobha!

Arun, you must be luck then! But how on earth did you land up with bitter blood?!

LL: Not fair! Laughing at my sorry plight :)

Trish: You’re right actually! I can’t imagine there is a place without mosquitos. Actually wait! We didn’t have any in Shillong back in the 1980s :)

Twilight: Don’t know how you got that impression either. I used to be in Mumbai and am currently in Bangalore :)

Jay: Thanks! Will definitely keep you in mind if I need any legal help!

Thanks Shyamal. It is proving exciting and fun. I quite like the uncertainty the whole moving experience brings along with it!

Aruna: Will definitely do that! And the same goes for you when you visit Bangalore.

Vaibhav: Thanks and will add you too. Why don’t you start with hosting my site? ;)

Prasant: I think I just escaped as I wasn’t in Mumbai long enough to be called a Mumbaikar. But I agree with you. A city tends to grow on you, methinks!

Thanks Jil :) Have hassled you enough already no? :)
