Cycling

Back from Goa!

Just back from a week long cycling trip to Goa.

We cycled over 60 kms every day over 5 days. The weather was hot and steamy. The terrain was up and down and mostly unpredictable. We crossed beaches, little towns, hamlets, green fields, mining areas, hills, plains, forests and wildlife sanctuaries. We saw Goa like we’d never seen before.

We began from Panjim. From there we made our way down South towards Mobor and Assolna (Day 1 halt). The next day we headed towards Netravati and halted at Tanshikar Farms (and the best place we stayed in during our journey!).

On day 3, we made our way east towards Doodhsagar (famous for the falls of the same name), which is located in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. On Day 4, we headed towards Bondla National Sanctuary after one of the toughest climbs of the trip.

On the last day on the road, we left Bondla and made our way to Marcel, and then Old Goa via the Cumburjua ferry ghat. From Old Goa, we cycled beside the the riverside to get back to our camp in Panjim.

All in all, it was a great trip. More pictures and stories are coming soon.

For now, let me wish all of you a very Merry Xmas and all the best for 2009!

  6. Here are a few things I missed from this post–
There is no mention of how many calories you burnt
No mention of the good food
No mention of the good wine…

Merry X’mas and have a wonderful new year.

  10. @ Venky: calories? many! but weight loss — none! good food — well, i will write about in in the next post. no wine when exercising!

@ Vamsee: yes, i did a few long rides. the longest was a 50km ride in the heat to a place beyond sarjapur. that i felt was good mental preparation for the heat.

    @ Dennis: same to you!

@ Shalini: thanks! yes, i am still around ;-) i am sure you will make it to one also and have great fun! have a great year ahead!

  11. Wow! That must have been a very exciting trip. Goa has got a vast variety of places to visit. Next time you come here do visit the hinterland, the Churches, the temples etc and you will love it all the more. There are atleast a 100 things you can do in Goa. You need atleast a week to explore this beautiful place
