The Horse Files Posted on June 15, 2004 I was really relieved, when after my disastrous start getting onto a horse, this time around I actually managed to mount at the first go. Unfortunately though for me, Trilka (incorrectly called Trilla in my last horse related post) hadn’t had breakfast. So while trotting, she would suddenly look down greedily at the grass and make desirable noises leaving me clueless as to what I was supposed to do. Furthermore, the instructor kept shouting, “Baby, raise yourself, raise yourself. Keep you body straight. Look in front between the horse’s ears.” Now I don’t know if you’ve realized (besides that the fact that I am definitely NOT a baby), but it’s rather tough to do all these things at once and keep your balance on a horse that is both hungry and trotting in circles. Well, I guess I will give you the second lesson of riding horse after the first lesson of bribing with jaggery to win the trust of horse. Now the second this is ‘You Have to TRUST the horse’. Unless the horse is really really crazy and running arround like hell, you can trust it completely, that its not going to make you fall. All you have to do is trust the horse and just concentrate on how you are sitting, how you are positioning your legs and how you are managing the twists and turns effectively. Make sure that you are not sitting tight on the horse, just stand up a little bit and move your butt along with the horse and let the horse go according to its will. Don’t try to control the horse too much, just try to manage the ride, good luck. Hope next time you will be riding the horse like a champ. Reply
