India & Around

Memories of Mangalore

It was an interesting weekend, to say the least. Monday comes around again and I’m left with memories of the lovely seaf00d (we tried everything from prawns, kingfish, seer fish to pomfret!), the beautiful seaside by Bekal and the endless walk along the renovated fort, the sunset we caught on the way back to Mangalore.

The bullocks race festival where man and animal raced furiously in the muddy slush, in what continues to be a tradition in the state. Before that we witnessed other interesting events like running races and tug of war (everything held in a mud/slush filled field!). And to end the visit, some time spent at Mangalore’s Liquid Lounge, a really cool place, where you can have a drink at prices unimaginable in Bangalore!

At the races!

We are yet to book our tickets (stay and other essentials have been arranged). we will be flying from B/lre to delhi and delhi to kulu. if anybody is interested in joining us, you could reach out to me at diphaa@yahoo.com.

Anita, thank you once again for this wonderful experience that you let us peek through…whenever, i look at your pages/updates, it always feels like a sniff of fresh air passing through in the otherwise totally congested and cramped life that one undergoes…

  5. Anita,

Guess I am an other one of your silent readers :-). I thought of scribbling something coz , I happen to come from a place near to bekal. I am sure you would have enjoyed bekal. Couple of other places that you could have visited are “ranipuram” and this riverside resort called “nalanda resorts”. I guess the resort guys arrange house boat stays as well. It’s very cheap compard to the house boats in alleppey.

BTW your pics are simply amazing. keep posting ‘em

    Cheers

  6. Mangalore and especially the Ghat section preceding it are a view to behold.

One section that many people may not have explored is the Bisle ghat section. In case u get a chance, do visit that place.

There are amazing view points.. absolutely beautiful :-)

  11. Hi Anitha,

Snaps are really good. You can get still more good snaps which are worth seeing in the nearby places of Bekal. Dont miss those places next time when you are going to visit.
