The purrfect pose

Posted on September 27, 2009September 30, 2009

The practice of the Surya Namaskar touches all aspects : body, mind and soul. I particularly like this exercise as it’s a great way to stretch parts of the body which normally don’t get much action. :-p

Some visuals that show the steps.

So apparently, we use only 35 to 40% of muscles in daily activities. The rest of the muscles remain inactive. The Surya Namaskar is a physical exercise where almost 95% to 97% of your muscles are switched on to active mode.

Some benefits:
– Eliminates unpleasant smells from the body.
– Lends grace and ease of movements to the body.
– Revives and maintains the spirit of youthfulness.
– Broadens chest and beautifies arms.
– Makes the spine and waist flexible.
– Produces health, strength, efficiency and longevity.

Need anymore reasons to start your daily dose?

And if you’re wondering how cats maintain their feline grace, here’s an example of Kit Kit doing her bit of the namaskar!

What Mumbai means to me

Posted on July 14, 2006July 18, 2006

It did not deserve this surely. Close on the heels of the furore of the monsoons, it now has another terrorist attack to deal with. If it gives in, it’s broken. If it goes about its business, it’s uncaring. Sometimes, I think that it’s so unfair that a city that…

bangalore bloggers blogout!

Posted on May 27, 2005May 30, 2005

bLogout. For once, Suman comes up with an interesting word 🙂

So instead of sitting in a coffee shop or a Koshy’s, we’ve decided to go away somewhere for the next blog meet. And appropriately, the meet will be called bLogout (trademark Suman!).

I completely agree with u!! I’ve been doing yoga for 1.5yrs and I’ve derived IMMENSE benefits thru it!!

The best part is suryanamskars can be used for different purposes.Doing it slow and holding each pose for long builds flexibility/strength whereas doing it fast is a good cardio workout. Doing 108 builds the stamina 🙂
