This annoying MT comments spam problem is killing me! So until I can figure out how to install the MT Blacklist program, I’ve closed off my comments. I am available on email (if you look hard enough on the right hand side, you should find it somewhere)…

Update: Have installed Jay Allen’s Blacklist and deleted over 300 spam messages. Am hoping it’s going to keep these evil people away…

My new home

Posted on August 30, 2003

I booked this domain in May, 2003. Three months have passed. I have still not been able to export my old blog here. I’ve been meaning to do it, but instructions like these, can be quite scary. I was talking to Ashish yesterday, when he came up with a brilliant…

You might want to take a look at:

    http://www.movabletype.org/news/2004_01.shtml#000882

They have the simplest and the most effective (albeit manual) way of managing your comments. Open for selective topic-wise comment that you’d really like to hear from people reading; and close of adding comments on all old topics. It’s lengthy but, will keep you focussed only on the open (latest/current) one =)

    Cheers.

Oh, I forgot: do upgrade your MT version. They found some flaws in older MT (specifically XML-RPC – that allows comment spamming). Hope this reduces the number – if not all.

Hey – there is one neat way to kill spam. Download this little tool called Magic Mail Monitor (http://www.geeba.org/magic/) and preview all your email. This little tool is POP3 email checker (does not work for services like Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) that downloads the subject of all your messages. You can quickly delete all the unwanted messages from the server before going through the rigmorale of deleting them locally.

Yes – there are many more ways to kill SPAM. But this is one good way to the list.

    Tass.

P.S. Nice blog site:) Check mine out at http://tassadar.rediffblogs.com and let me know your thought. Just a little warning – I am a newbie at this so please be patient πŸ™‚

    Here’s my blacklist: http://www.knowprose.com/blacklist.txt

You can copy everything (don’t copy the lines with the # sign in it) and you should be current.

Made it here through Orkut. Believe it or not.

Patrix: The pains of being an ‘independent’! But having been on both sides, I must say that I enjoy being where I am!

    Thanks Olive!

SP: Yes, will definitely check out the upgrade.

Tass: Thanks for all the helpful hints and will definitely check out your site!

Tarun: Hope you’re finding your way around the ocean and not getting drowned πŸ™‚

Madman: Thanks for the advance greetings. Also, making you the first one to wish me!

Ashu: You got me there! But I’ve been busy. Really!
